Mandolin Lessons

for ages 8 & Up. Beginner to advanced

Mandolin Lessons

Looking for private mandolin lessons personalized just for you? Our friendly, patient mandolin instructors help students explore styles from bluegrass and country to folk, classical, pop, blues, jazz, and more. Whether you are brand new to the instrument, returning after time away, or already playing in a local band, lessons are shaped around your goals, favorite music, and pace.

Beginners can build a strong foundation with chords, scales, rhythm, melody, harmony, note reading, music theory, and strumming technique. Intermediate and advanced students can continue growing their skills while learning repertoire that keeps practice motivating.

Mandolin lessons are available for ages 8 to adult in a supportive environment that balances musicianship, confidence, and fun.

Are you ready to learn mandolin?

We teach all styles, from rock, pop, blues, jazz, and bluegrass to country and classical mandolin.

Our mandolin instructors bring many years of professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons. All instructors have the minimum qualifications for families to receive scholarship reimbursement from PEP, UA/FES, and many others.

Beginner mandolin students can expect to work on scales and chords, sight reading, rhythm, melody and harmony, music theory, and strumming technique. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun while building lessons around your favorite songs and goals.

No. Beginners are welcome, and your teacher can introduce note reading, rhythm, and music theory step by step as part of your lessons.

Yes, you will need to purchase a mandolin to bring to your lesson each week and to practice at home. Sweetwater has a great selection of mandolins to choose from, and we are happy to offer guidance if you have questions.

Absolutely! Every student has the opportunity to perform at our recitals, held at venues throughout Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough counties. Recent venues include the Palladium Theater, Dunedin Community Center, Carrollwood Cultural Center, Starkey Ranch Library Theater, and more. We do not charge participation fees for students and admission is free, so you can invite family and friends.

Our mandolin instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student’s favorite type of music. Whether you’re playing in local bands, an eight-year-old taking their first lesson, or a fifty-year-old returning to the mandolin after many years, our teachers will help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
